Valencia:Vettel takes a comfortable win

Sebastian Vettel took his sixth victory of the season in Valencia on Sunday, taking a comfortable win.

The start

Massa got the best start of the front runners and briefly jumped into 3rd. He chooses to have a look on the inside of Webber which proved a mistake as a lack of room meant he had to brake early. Alonso who had dropped to 5th after a poor getaway went round the outside at turn 1. With plenty of room he is able to get by both Hamilton and Massa.

Lap 5 we see the overtaking move of the race. Button gets past Rosberg by outbraking him at turn 2.Another great Button overtake,he didn’t need DRS.

While Michael Schumacher, after his great drive in Canada made a bad error,he came out of the pits and with Petrov just getting in front Michael locked his brakes and clipped the back of the Renault which meant he lost his front wing,he would finish 17th

Alonso V Webber battle

While Sebastian was keeping the gap at 2-3 seconds over these two,Mark and Fernando were having a great battle. The Alonso/Webber fight was the main focal interest at the front.Webber held it, under pressure until Lap 20 when Alonso then overtook after exploiting his DRS going into Turn 12. The Spaniard then stayed there until his second pit stop on Lap 29,when Webber got back in front having stopped a lap sooner.

Webber’s third and final stop was on Lap 42 but ran wide going into the pits and lost crucial time, Alonso was able to stop on Lap 45 and move into second place. Webber then dropped away, as his car developed a gearbox problem. He was so far ahead of Hamilton though that his podium place was never in doubt.

Vettel cruised to the win, winning by over 10 seconds with Fernando Alonso in a comfortable second and Mark Webber a comfortable third despite his gearbox troubles towards the end of the race. Lewis Hamilton was 46.1s behind Vettel on a day when McLaren lacked pace, heading home Felipe Massa’s Ferrari and team mate Jenson Button.

Nico Rosberg finished a lonely seventh for Mercedes, ahead of a mighty scrap between Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari, who drove a great two-stop strategy from 18th on the grid finished a super 8th just 0.4 ahead of Adrian Sutil in his Force India as he finished 9th .Nick Heidfeld had an undramatic run to 10th and the final point for Renault, ahead of Sergio Perez who in the Sauber who only made one stop in the race.

Williams’ Rubens Barrichello headed home Sebastien Buemi in the other Toro Rosso, Paul di Resta’s Force India, Vitaly Petrov’s Renault, who made a shocking start, Kamui Kobayashi’s two-stopping Sauber,Michael Schumacher and Pastor Maldonado’s Williams.

Heikki Kovalainen beat Team Lotus team mate Jarno Trulli to 19th place, while Timo Glock saw off Virgin partner Jerome D’Ambrosio, who was involved in a mighty scrap early on with Tonio Liuzzi’s HRT before pulling clear. Liuzzi thus took 23rd, well ahead of team mate Narain Karthikeyan.
