Alonso wins a thrilling British Grand Prix

Spaniard Fernando Alonso took a wonderful victory at the British Grand Prix but despite this reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel  extended his championship lead.

Heavy showers beforehand made for difficult conditions at the beginning of the race, half the track wet,the other half bone dry, everyone went for inters.A brilliant start by Vettel saw him take the lead from poleman Webber by the first corner, with Alonso in 3rd place.Heikki Kovalainen in the Lotus retired soon after the race began.

Button, had passed Massa at the start but Felipe attacked Button on the second lap at Village and overtook him to get back into 4th place.Hamilton who had started in 10th,passed Rosberg,Maldonado,Kobayashi and Di Resta early on in the race to moved up into 6th place and on Lap 5 he passed teammate Button, who was quite slow.

Michael Schumacher, who made yet another great start, jumping up from 13th to 9th was involved in a collision with Kobayashi after the rear of the car stepped out on him,Kobayashi was spun round,Michael lost his first wing,Michael would then pit for dry tyres and immediately starting setting fastest laps before he was given a penalty(harshly in my opinion) for the contact with Kamui,(Kamui would retire later due to an engine problem) and after the penalty Michael was down in 17th.

After everyone made pitstops for dry tyres Vettel led from Webber,Alonso,Hamilton and Button.

Soon though Hamilton was right behind Alonso and bravely went up the inside at Copse on a wet line to take 3rd place in the grand prix. However Alonso quickly then caught Hamilton, setting fastest laps and passed Lewis down the wellington straight thanks to the DRS on Lap 26.He then set after the Red Bulls and was going faster than Vettel and comfortably faster than Webber.

However disaster then for Red Bull,Hamilton jumped Webber in the pitstops due to fresher tyres,Vettel had a shocking stop,a problem with the rear jack meant he lost the lead to Alonso and Hamilton took 2nd place but came out in front of teammate Webber.

Alonso then started cruising away, going 1 second to 2 seconds faster a lap compared to Lewis in 2nd place who was brilliantly defending against Sebastian Vettel.

Alonso soon built up a lead of over 10 seconds.Vettel pitted from third earlier than he would have liked due to been stuck behind Lewis,Mclaren brought Lewis in a lap later but Vettel did a great outlap and jumped Lewis to take 2nd place.Disaster would strike for Jenson Button at this final pitstop, his front right wheel was not put on properly so was forced to retire right at the exit of the pitlane meaning his dismal record at his home race continued.

So heading into the final stint Alonso led,Vettel 2nd,Hamilton 3rd,Webber 4th and Massa 5th,soon though Hamilton was told too save fuel which meant Webber breezed by in the DRS zone and set off after his teammate.

While Alonso cruised to victory, epic battles were going for 2nd and 3rd and also for 4th and 5th.Webber attacked Vettel hard on the last 2 laps but just could not find a way past despite Horner coming on the radio telling Webber to hold position,Webber said he ignored the order after the race.Meanwhile Massa and Hamilton had a fabulous dual,Massa passed Hamilton round the outside at vale but after a bit of contact Lewis got better drive out of club and held onto his 4th place.

Alonso won very easily from Vettel,Webber,Hamilton,Massa,Rosberg,Perez, who drove an excellent race,Heidfeld,Schumacher, who brilliantly came back through the field and Alguersuari, who also had a good race completed the points scorers.

Driver of the day:Fernando Alonso,a super drive, especially when it turned dry, beautifully pulled away and won the race easily, the new rules were a big help for sure though

Fool of the day:Christian Horner for trying to impose team orders, let them race, fair play to Webber for ignoring them
